BlueLetter reads Dutch government letters and gives you back a translation, a plain-language summary, and the deadlines the letter contains. If something isn't working, or you want a question answered before you subscribe, this page is the place to start.
BlueLetter is run by one person, Marco Santini, in the Netherlands. Expect a reply within two working days. Writing in English, Spanish, or Italian is fine.
For privacy questions, data access, or deletion requests, write to privacy@tryblueletter.com instead — those are answered within 30 days, as required by the GDPR.
To help us fix a problem quickly, include your iOS version, your iPhone model, and roughly when the problem happened. Please do not email us photos of your letters — we do not need them, and they usually contain your BSN.
Open BlueLetter, tap the scan button, and photograph the letter in good light with the whole page in frame. You can add several pages to one letter. The app sends the pages for processing and returns the translation, the summary, and any dates it found. You need an account and an internet connection to scan.
Fourteen: English, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Mandarin, Romanian, and Hindi. You pick this during onboarding and can change it later in your profile.
Separately, the app's own interface is available in English, Spanish, Italian, German, and French, and you can switch it under Profile → Preferences → App language. The interface language and the language your letters are translated into are independent settings.
Most failures come down to the photo. Try again with the page flat, the whole sheet visible, no glare across the text, and no fingers over the edges. Handwriting and heavily creased pages are genuinely hard for the model to read.
If the result is readable but wrong — a mistranslation, a missed deadline, the wrong sender — please email us with what the letter said and what the app returned. That is the most useful bug report we get.
Reminders and calendar entries are part of the Standard and Pro tiers; the free tier does not include them. If you are on a paid tier and reminders are still not arriving, check that notifications are enabled for BlueLetter in iOS Settings → Notifications, and that you granted calendar access when the app asked. A deadline that has already passed does not get a reminder.
No. The app identifies the sender from what is printed on the page, which a convincing fake would also carry. It cannot verify authenticity and does not check any official register. If you suspect a letter is a scam, contact the agency directly using a phone number or address you looked up yourself.
| Tier | Letters per month | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | Translation, summary, deadlines. Up to 3 pages per letter, 90 days of history. |
| Standard | 20 | Unlimited pages and history, push reminders, calendar entries. |
| Pro | 60 | Everything in Standard, plus PDF export and Apple Family Sharing. |
Standard and Pro are auto-renewing subscriptions billed monthly or annually. The price you pay is the one shown on the paywall inside the app and at the App Store checkout, in your own currency. Your allowance resets on the first day of each calendar month; the app shows how many letters you have left and the date of the next reset under Profile.
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. On your iPhone, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, choose BlueLetter, and tap Cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the paid features until the period you already paid for ends. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, or that renewal still goes through.
Apple is the merchant of record, which means we cannot issue refunds ourselves even when we would like to. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com using the Apple ID that made the purchase. If you are an EU consumer, section 5 of our Terms explains how the 14-day right of withdrawal applies to a service you have already used.
Open Profile and tap Restore purchases, making sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID that bought the subscription. If it still doesn't appear, email us with the date of purchase and we will look it up.
Tap Forgot password on the sign-in screen. We email you a reset link that opens straight back into the app. If the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder before writing to us.
Open Profile → Delete account. This erases your account, your letters, and your deadlines from our database. It does not cancel an active subscription — do that through Apple first, using the steps above — and it does not remove the letter photos held on your own device, which you delete by removing the letters or the app.
The photos stay on your phone. A photo passes through our backend to the AI provider while a scan is running and is never written to our storage. The resulting text, summary, and deadlines are saved on your device and synced through a database in the EU so they follow you between devices. The full account is in our Privacy Policy.
